Creative Commons licenses (CC license)

Creative Commons(CC) is an American non-profit organization and international network devoted to educational access and expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share. The organization has released several copyright licenses, known as Creative Commons licenses, free of charge to the public. These licenses allow authors of creative works to communicate which rights they reserve and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license. Content owners still maintain their copyright, but Creative Commons licenses give standard releases that replace the individual negotiations for specific rights between copyright owner (licensor) and licensee, that are necessary under an "all rights reserved" copyright management.

The Strong-Motion Dataset (PGA, PGV, and Site VS30 of 2022 M6.8 Luding, China Earthquake

A M6.8 earthquake occurred on 5th September 2022 in Luding county, Sichuan, China, at 12: 52 Beijing Time (4:52 UTC). According to the report of China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter is located at 29.25°N, 102.08°E in the depth of 16 km (www.ceis.ac.cn). The earthquake claimed 93 deaths and 25 missing (www.cctv.com). Tens of thousands of buildings were damaged and the operation of local lifelines and facilities was affected. The earthquake also induced at least 5 007 landslides in the meizoseismal areas (Huang et al., 2022).

We complied a dataset including PGA and PGV records of the main-shock of the Luding earthquake derived from 73 accelerometers and 791 Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) sensors within 300 km of the epicenter. All records are in Sichuan province, China. In addition to the strong-motion records, we also included 44 extrapolated and 820 inferred VS30 data at the recording sites. The inferred VS30 was estimated using a new developed VS30 model (SCK model) that combines local VS30 observations and topographic slope to improve the estimation accuracy. To deliver data to readers in a single spreadsheet for use in analysis, a flat file was compiled by merging information of the metadata of recording stations, the ground-motion records, and the VS30 at the recording sites.

We noted the maximum of PGA_E and PGA_N as PGA, the maximum of PGV_E and PGV_N as PGV for each records. The epicenter distances of 108 recording sites are less than 100 km. The rupture projection distance of 156 records sites are less than 100 km. The largest PGA value reaches 634.1 gal, recorded by the MEMS sensor of intensity meter ID. T2471 having the epicenter distance of 28.4 km and the rupture projection distance of 2.7 km. The largest PGV value reaches 71.1 cm/s, recorded by the MEMS sensor of intensity meter ID. V2204 having the epicenter distance of 7.4 km and the rupture projection distance of 3.4 km.

For all recording sites, according to the site classification scheme of the newest NEHRP provisions (Building Seismic Safety Council, 2020), three sites are class DE, 15 sites are class D, 456 sites are class CD, 328 sites are class C, and two sites are class BC. The site classes of all recording sites indicated that most records are from the soil sites but not the rock sites.

VS30 Map for Pakistan and Kashmir

The dataset is the SCK model inferred VS30 map for Pakistan and Kashmir obtained by using 85 SPT borehole data of Khan et al. in Rawalpindi and Islamabad areas and SRTM30 DEM data.

The resolution of map data is 0.1 degree. The VS30 of the mountainous area in the north and west of Pakistan is higher than that of the plain in the southeast region.
